Here&#8217;s where we stand right now.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While students were spending the weekend packing bags, getting ready to return to school (Welcome Week starts Thursday!), Big 12 leaders were busy working to keep the conference strong. Here&#8217;s a recap of what&#8217;s happened since <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2011\/08\/historic-rivalries-threatened-once-again-sic-em-baylor-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\">our last post<\/a>, and what&#8217;s next:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Saturday, Big 12 presidents and athletic directors conferred, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylorbears.com\/genrel\/081311aad.html\" target=\"_blank\">every school (but A&amp;M) reaffirming its commitment to the league<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Sunday morning, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=98171\" target=\"_blank\">an op-ed from Baylor President Ken Starr<\/a> ran in the <em>Waco Tribune-Herald<\/em>; in it, Starr again emphasized Baylor&#8217;s commitment to the Big 12 and its historic rivalries.<\/li>\n<li>Sunday afternoon, <a href=\"http:\/\/content.usatoday.com\/communities\/campusrivalry\/post\/2011\/08\/texas-a38m-aggies-southeastern-conference-florida-gators-bernie-machen\/1\" target=\"_blank\">the SEC reaffirmed its current alignment of 12 schools<\/a>, but said expansion is not off the table entirely.<\/li>\n<li>This afternoon, the TAMU Board of Regents met and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/aggies\/sec-tables-a-ms-possible-move-from-big-1744610.html\" target=\"_blank\">authorized A&amp;M President R. Bowen Loftin<\/a> &#8220;to take all actions related to athletic conference alignment.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>About the same time, the Texas House of Representatives&#8217; Higher Education Committee announced that it had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statesman.com\/blogs\/content\/shared-gen\/blogs\/austin\/aggies\/entries\/2011\/08\/15\/house_higher_education_committ.html\" target=\"_blank\">postponed its scheduled Tuesday meeting<\/a> that was to have examined whether a conference change for A&amp;M is in the best interests of the state of Texas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Several sources have reported that the SEC and A&amp;M have slowed matters down <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/sports\/college\/mizzou\/article_07a20004-1390-5dd2-a271-7f15a3e04baa.html\" target=\"_blank\">out of concern for possible lawsuits<\/a>.
