{"id":643,"date":"2008-10-03T07:50:20","date_gmt":"2008-10-03T12:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2008\/10\/03\/school-of-social-work-honored-for-work-with-wacos-homeless\/"},"modified":"2008-10-03T07:50:20","modified_gmt":"2008-10-03T12:50:20","slug":"school-of-social-work-honored-for-work-with-wacos-homeless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2008\/10\/school-of-social-work-honored-for-work-with-wacos-homeless\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Social Work honored for work with Waco\u2019s homeless"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/socialwork-homeless-sept08.jpg\" alt=\"Social Work students at Project Homeless Connect\" align=\"right\" \/>Baylor&#8217;s School of Social Work recently was honored with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=52554\" target=\"_blank\">2008 Texas Homeless Network Outstanding Community Service Award<\/a>, which annually goes to the person or group &#8220;that has helped advance policies or innovative solutions to homelessness or worked with communities to make a difference in fighting homelessness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/social_work\/\" target=\"_blank\">School of Social Work<\/a> was recognized for its prisoner re-entry efforts and its work with the homeless in Waco. For example, more than 70 students, faculty and staff participated in the 2007 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waco-texas.com\/city_depts\/housingservices\/homeless.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Project Homeless Connect<\/a>, an event sponsored by the City of Waco&#8217;s Housing and Community Development office in which volunteers survey persons who are homeless to collect information that can be used to provide more beneficial services to this population. I love what the office&#8217;s director, Jeff Wall, had to say:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I stood and watched with pure amazement at the professionalism and compassion Baylor&#8217;s students reflected in this critical homeless event.
