{"id":5416,"date":"2011-02-21T11:36:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-21T16:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baylorproud.wpengine.com\/?p=5416"},"modified":"2011-02-21T11:36:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-21T16:36:00","slug":"christianity-today-names-bu-history-profs-book-one-of-the-best-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2011\/02\/christianity-today-names-bu-history-profs-book-one-of-the-best-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Christianity Today names BU history prof&#8217;s book one of the best of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"godofliberty-feb11\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/godofliberty-feb11.jpg\" alt=\"Thomas Kidd's book, God of Liberty\" width=\"225\" height=\"340\" \/>For the second time in four years, Dr. Thomas Kidd, an associate professor of history in Baylor&#8217;s College of Arts and Sciences, has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=87888\" target=\"_blank\">one of the top books of the year as evaluated by <em>Christianity Today<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kidd&#8217;s book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/God-Liberty-Religious-American-Revolution\/dp\/0465002358\" target=\"_blank\"><em>God of Liberty: A Religious History of the American Revolution<\/em><\/a>, was chosen as one of 21 books across 10 categories to be honored from the past year. <em>God of Liberty<\/em> examines the role religion played in founding of America and was one of two books to be recognized by <em>Christianity Today<\/em> in the area of history and biography.<\/p>\n<p>Kidd, who is also a Senior Fellow at Baylor&#8217;s Institute for Studies of Religion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2008\/04\/four-baylor-related-books-among-christianity-todays-favorites\/\" target=\"_blank\">was similarly recognized in 2008<\/a> for his last book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Great-Awakening-Evangelical-Christianity-Colonial\/dp\/0300158467\/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_2\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Great Awakening: The Roots of Evangelical Christianity in Colonial America<\/em><\/a>. Now in his ninth year at Baylor, Kidd is an outspoken proponent of teachers who are active researchers as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe that while excellent teaching is not determined by research activity alone, for me personally, my most passionate teaching happens in areas where I have actively owned the material through original research,&#8221; Kidd told <em>Baylor Magazine<\/em> in 2008. &#8220;Teaching the Great Awakening of the 18th century is personally exciting because I can tell the students what I have found and written about through my own research.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Dr. Kidd!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the second time in four years, Dr. Thomas Kidd, an associate professor of history in Baylor&#8217;s College of Arts and Sciences, has one of the top books of the year as evaluated by Christianity Today.
