{"id":522,"date":"2008-07-03T09:54:39","date_gmt":"2008-07-03T15:54:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2008\/07\/03\/honored-med-students-each-got-their-start-at-baylor\/"},"modified":"2008-07-03T09:54:39","modified_gmt":"2008-07-03T15:54:39","slug":"honored-med-students-each-got-their-start-at-baylor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2008\/07\/honored-med-students-each-got-their-start-at-baylor\/","title":{"rendered":"Honored med students each got their start at Baylor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/sara-lindsey-june08.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Sara Lindsey\" align=\"right\" \/>The staff at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utsouthwestern.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">UT Southwestern Medical School<\/a> noticed a trend when rounding up the winners of their annual student awards; an unusually high number had all done their undergraduate studies at the same school &#8212; Baylor.<\/p>\n<p>Five Baylor alums were recognized by UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas with a variety of honors; click on each name below for a PDF of an article from the school&#8217;s paper about that student.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/bearspace.baylor.edu\/Group_BaylorProud\/www\/galleries\/utsouthwestern\/lindsey-mitchell.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Sara Lindsey<\/a> (pictured) was awarded UT Southwestern Medical School\u2019s Ho Din Award &#8212; the highest honor for a graduating medical student. She will remain in Dallas for a residency in radiology at Baylor Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/bearspace.baylor.edu\/Group_BaylorProud\/www\/galleries\/utsouthwestern\/vick.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Katie Vick<\/a> received the school&#8217;s top family medicine award, the William F. Ross, M.D., Scholarship Award in Family Medicine, a $1,000 scholarship given to a graduating UT Southwestern Medical School student. She will serve her residency at the McLennan County Family Medicine Practice Center in Waco.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/bearspace.baylor.edu\/Group_BaylorProud\/www\/galleries\/utsouthwestern\/fitzwater.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Joseph Fitzwater<\/a> won the 2008 Annelle M. Ahmed, M.D., Women\u2019s Health Care Award, the school&#8217;s top women&#8217;s health honor. He <strike>is completing a general surgery residency in Lubbock<\/strike>\u00a0 is completing his ob-gyn\u00a0residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas (sorry for the error; that&#8217;s his brother in Lubbock).<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/bearspace.baylor.edu\/Group_BaylorProud\/www\/galleries\/utsouthwestern\/davis.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Sarah Davis<\/a> claimed UT Southwestern&#8217;s top neurology award, the 2008 American Academy of Neurology Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Neurology. She will be a resident at Cincinnati Children\u2019s Hospital Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/bearspace.baylor.edu\/Group_BaylorProud\/www\/galleries\/utsouthwestern\/Brown.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Ben Brown<\/a> is this year\u2019s recipient of the Vanatta, Hesser, Schmalstieg Excellence in Tutoring Award.
