{"id":5192,"date":"2011-01-12T14:18:24","date_gmt":"2011-01-12T19:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baylorproud.wpengine.com\/?p=5192"},"modified":"2011-01-12T14:18:24","modified_gmt":"2011-01-12T19:18:24","slug":"pair-of-bears-named-among-dallas-business-journals-cfos-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2011\/01\/pair-of-bears-named-among-dallas-business-journals-cfos-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Pair of Bears named among Dallas Business Journal&#8217;s CFOs of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"fischer-weiss-jan11\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/fischer-weiss-jan11.jpg\" alt=\"Kellie Fischer and Temple Weiss\" width=\"225\" height=\"253\" \/>When the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/dallas\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dallas Business Journal<\/em><\/a> named its Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) of the Year for 2010, two of the 10 honorees shared something in common: a Baylor education.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/dallas\/stories\/2010\/10\/18\/focus11.html\" target=\"_blank\">CFO for the Texas Rangers, Kellie Fischer<\/a>, BBA &#8217;95, helped lead the franchise through the financial struggles of its previous owner and into both new ownership (including <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2010\/08\/both-texas-mlb-teams-now-owned-by-baylor-bears\/\" target=\"_blank\">Baylor&#8217;s own Bob Simpson<\/a>) and the team&#8217;s first World Series appearance. Like many Baylor students, Fischer began college as a pre-med major, but after finding herself squeamish about the human body, she turned to business. She remains a frequent guest speaker for classes in Waco and at Baylor Business Network events in the Metroplex.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/dallas\/stories\/2010\/10\/18\/focus9.html\" target=\"_blank\">La Quinta CFO Temple Weiss<\/a>, BBA &#8217;94, on the other hand, has always looked forward to a career in business. He has spent the past 15 years in the hospitality industry, including the last three years as CFO for the chain of 800-plus hotels. A Bear through and through, Weiss married a Baylor grad (Jennifer, BBA &#8217;94), and when asked by the <em>Business Journal<\/em>&#8216;s what his free-time passions are, responded &#8220;All things Baylor.
