In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/investor\/special_reports\/20100617_bloombergbusinessweek_50.htm\" target=\"_blank\">this year&#8217;s ranking<\/a> (released in the June 21 issue, on newsstands now), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/interactive_reports\/bw50_table_wk26.html?chan=investing_special+report+--+bloomberg+businessweek+50_special+report+--+bloomberg+businessweek+50\" target=\"_blank\">two of the nation&#8217;s top 30 companies are led by members of the Baylor family<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">BMC Software<\/a>, headed by CEO (and Baylor Regent) Bob Beauchamp, <a href=\"http:\/\/images.businessweek.com\/ss\/10\/06\/0617_bw_50\/28.htm\" target=\"_blank\">ranks 27th on the list<\/a>; the Houston-based company sells systems management software to megacompanies like AT&amp;T. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmc.com\/corporate\/officers\/robert-beauchamp-officer.html\" target=\"_blank\">Beauchamp<\/a> joined the Baylor family after being impressed by his two sons&#8217; experiences as students here, accepting a position on the Baylor Board last year. &#8220;I&#8217;ve come to have a remarkable respect for Baylor,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylormag.com\/story.php?story=006311\" target=\"_blank\">Beauchamp told <em>Baylor Magazine<\/em><\/a> last summer. &#8220;The faculty, the students, the alumni, they&#8217;re just a special group of people who are so high quality in terms of their character and their value systems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/images.businessweek.com\/ss\/10\/06\/0617_bw_50\/29.htm\" target=\"_blank\">The very next spot on the list<\/a> is held by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hp.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hewlett-Packard<\/a>, led by CEO <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hp.com\/hpinfo\/execteam\/bios\/hurd.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Hurd<\/a>, BBA &#8217;79. HP is actually the largest company on the list, with sales of more than $114 billion. Hurd&#8217;s involvement with Baylor has ranged from speaking engagements (such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/business\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=38545\" target=\"_blank\">Baylor Business Network meetings<\/a>) to generous support of the Baylor tennis programs (including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylorbears.com\/sports\/w-tennis\/spec-rel\/102809aaa.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hurd Tennis Building<\/a> on University Parks Drive).<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Baylor leaders in business!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each year, Bloomberg Businessweek compiles a list of the 50 S&amp;P companies that have provided the best returns to shareholders over the last five years.
