{"id":334,"date":"2008-03-10T08:18:36","date_gmt":"2008-03-10T14:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2008\/03\/10\/geology-chair-elected-president-of-international-society\/"},"modified":"2008-03-10T08:18:36","modified_gmt":"2008-03-10T14:18:36","slug":"geology-chair-elected-president-of-international-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2008\/03\/geology-chair-elected-president-of-international-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Geology chair elected president of international society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/driese-march08.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Steven Driese\" align=\"right\" \/>The chair of Baylor&#8217;s geology department, Dr. Steven Driese, can now add another title to his name. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=49696\" target=\"_blank\">Driese was elected president of the Society for Sedimentary Geology<\/a>, an international organization &#8220;dedicated to the dissemination of scientific information&#8221; in various geological fields.<\/p>\n<p>Driese has been an active member of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sepm.org\" target=\"_blank\">the organization<\/a> for over 30 years, most of that time as a professor at the University of Tennessee before coming to Baylor as chair in 2004. He has published more than 75 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has served as associate editor for two of the Society&#8217;s journals.<\/p>\n<p>Part of Baylor&#8217;s Vision 2012 is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/vision\/index.php?id=9696\" target=\"_blank\">developing a world-class faculty<\/a>;&#8221; the explanation under that imperative describes professors who are &#8220;recognized as leaders in their respective disciplines.&#8221; I think being elected president by your peers fits that description, don&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Dr. Driese!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The chair of Baylor&#8217;s geology department, Dr. Steven Driese, can now add another title to his name.
