The performance, of course, included such classics as &#8220;Mammas Don\u2019t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys&#8221; and &#8220;On the Road Again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The sold-out crowd of more than 6,000 spanned virtually every age, from kids and college students on up &#8212; all brought together by a historic night.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FBaylorUniversity1845%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02ohJjX2U6hu1YMFuY7xA8e1XFYtn9tKYn2FHV7R1vcJiGr3HM9xSvY5BtS2MzueLBl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"689\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Before the concert, Baylor President Linda Livingstone presented Nelson with his own Baylor Line jersey and an official Alumni-by-Choice decree. (Nelson attended BU for four months in 1954 on the G.I. Bill before deciding &#8220;I really wanted to play music more than I wanted to be a lawyer.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>A cancelled concert at Baylor in 1988 led to a longstanding rumor that Baylor had banned Nelson from performing. As it turns out, the &#8220;ban&#8221; really was nothing but a rumor, and President Livingstone personally extended the invitation to Willie to return.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FBaylorUniversity1845%2Fposts%2Fpfbid04iodoXQr81Bwp5T6yRXt8wZu7EekYHBHQjtAn6KRKPiUjAQ2ERujxG5gxQPRkzBUl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"588\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The night marked the first major concert event at Baylor Ballpark, but was just the latest in a series of Baylor concerts and events that has brought such performers as <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2025\/04\/forrest-franks-energy-makes-for-a-perfect-first-concert-at-foster-pavilion\/\">Forrest Frank<\/a> (BBA &#8217;17), <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/lauren-daigle-concert-foster-pavilion-september-12-2025\">Lauren Daigle<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/hudson-westbrook-concert-foster-pavilion-april-24-2026\">Hudson Westbrook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/cross-canadian-ragweed\">Cross Canadian Ragweed<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/jeff-dunham-concert-foster-pavilion-october-3-2025\">Jeff Dunham<\/a> (BA &#8217;86), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/harlem-globetrotters-perform-foster-pavilion-february-14-2026\">Harlem Globetrotters<\/a> to Foster Pavilion, McLane Stadium and Waco Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Artists coming to Waco this summer and fall include <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/event\/2026\/1546241\">La Fiera de Ojinaga &amp; Los Pescadores del R\u00edo Conchos<\/a> (July 19), <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/event\/2026\/1548454\">Old Dominion<\/a> (Sept. 18), and <a href=\"https:\/\/concerts.web.baylor.edu\/event\/2026\/1547733\">Braxton Keith<\/a> (Oct. 2), with more announcements yet to come.<\/p>\n<p>Sic &#8217;em (and welcome home), Willie Nelson!<\/p>\n<p><em>[BONUS: A cool timelapse showing Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark&#8217;s transformation, from final concert prep, through the event, and back to baseball by morning:]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eaqzkMBV83c<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Thursday night was a memory decades in the making, as Willie Nelson returned to his alma mater and took the stage at Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark.
