New York City is the financial capital of the United States (and arguably, the world) — so it makes sense that Baylor finance alums might be gathered in the Big Apple.<\/p>\n
Last month, the Baylor University Office of Investments<\/a> — the folks who have managed the university’s endowment so well their success garnered national attention<\/a> — brought together Baylor finance alums in the region for a special dinner, with plans to make the gathering an annual event.<\/p>\n Co-hosted with one of the university\u2019s investment managers, Engaged Capital, the Baylor Office of Investments invited a group of young alums for a night of green-and-gold festivities. The idea? To connect with Baylor’s strong finance alumni base and “plant a flag” for Baylor in NYC.<\/p>\n Having taught practicum classes in the Hankamer School of Business over the past five years, Baylor\u2019s Chief Investment Officer Dave Morehead knows first-hand how good BU finance students are.<\/p>\n “While teaching equity analysis for one of the largest student-managed investment portfolios in the country, I\u2019ve been impressed by the quality and depth of work demonstrated by Baylor finance students,” says Morehead. “So much so, that we continue to hire Baylor graduates to manage Baylor\u2019s $2.2 billion endowment. In a space where university investment offices are frequently staffed by alums, Baylor\u2019s endowment returns speak to the quality of Baylor\u2019s finance students.”<\/p>\n Many of the recent BU graduates who gathered for the evening expressed excitement about welcoming more Baylor alumni to New York, even offering to connect with students considering such a move.<\/p>\n “Not only do we think that it\u2019s important to have more Baylor graduates in NYC, but we believe Baylor students are almost ideally suited for portfolio allocation roles at universities, hospitals, community foundations, family offices, etc.,” says Morehead. “The combination of a strong ethical standing and a commitment to ‘doing the right thing,’ along with a solid core curriculum and hands-on experience, is tough to beat in this space.”<\/p>\n Sic \u2019em, NYC finance alums!<\/p>\n [Pictured above: Alayja Reynolds (BS ’23) and Stryker Lewis (BBA ’21) at the gathering]<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" New York City is the financial capital of the United States (and arguably, the world) — so it makes sense that Baylor finance alums might be gathered in the Big Apple.
