Davis, a biology professor at Pepperdine, was yesterday named the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=48691\" target=\"_blank\">2008 Cherry Award winner<\/a>. He will spend this fall teaching in residence at Baylor.<\/p>\n<p>In line with its long history of having professors who are excellent teachers, Baylor is the only college or university in the country to present a national teaching award to an individual for exceptional teaching. Baylor students in philosophy and music have benefitted in recent years from the tutelage of Cherry Award winners <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/cherry%5Fawards\/index.php?id=34947\" target=\"_blank\">Eleonore Stump<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/cherry%5Fawards\/index.php?id=46326\" target=\"_blank\">Anton Armstrong<\/a> (who was profiled in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylormag.com\/story.php?story=006067\" target=\"_blank\">this <em>Baylor Magazine<\/em> feature<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wacotrib.com\/news\/content\/news\/stories\/2008\/01\/16\/01152008wacbayloraward.html\" target=\"_blank\">Davis spoke highly of the award<\/a> to the <em>Waco Tribune-Herald<\/em>, noting that &#8220;I view myself, really, as a teacher. &#8230; [The award] gives tribute to teaching and, more significantly than that, to the concept of the integration of teaching and research.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the reward Davis will receive, $25,000 will go to his home department at Pepperdine. The other two finalists (Penn State&#8217;s Dr. George E.
