Baylor professors are often honored on these &#8220;best of&#8221; lists, on a wide variety of topics.<\/p>\n<p>For 2022, two books authored by Baylor faculty members earned recognition from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2023\/januaryfebruary\/christianity-today-2023-book-awards.html\"><em>Christianity Today<\/em><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/englewoodreview.org\/dec-7-jonathan-tran-asian-americans-and-the-spirit-of-racial-capitalism-advent-calendar\/\"><em>Englewood Review of Books<\/em><\/a>, giving readers throughout the Baylor Family new titles to add to their reading list.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1514001845\/\">Beyond Racial Division: A Unifying Alternative to Colorblindness and Antiracism<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, by Baylor sociology professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/sociology\/index.php?id=963916\">George Yancey<\/a>, was named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2023\/januaryfebruary\/christianity-today-2023-book-awards.html\"><em>Christianity Today<\/em>&#8216;s book of the year for &#8220;Politics &amp; Public Life.&#8221;<\/a> Describing Dr. Yancey&#8217;s writing as &#8220;clear,&#8221; &#8220;persuasive&#8221; and &#8220;moving,&#8221;\u00a0<em>CT<\/em>&#8216;s reviewer says the book &#8220;proposes a compelling alternative to our current racial stalemate that &#8212; dare I say it? &#8212; actually gives me hope.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yancey joined Baylor&#8217;s sociology faculty in 2019 after stints at Texas, UTSA, Wisconsin-Whitewater, and North Texas. His research focuses on such topics as racial identity, academic bias, progressive Christians, and anti-Christian hostility. Yancey&#8217;s previous books include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Compromising-Scholarship-Religious-Political-Education\/dp\/1602582688\"><em>Compromising Scholarship<\/em><\/a> (on religious and political biases in academia), <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/What-Motivates-Cultural-Progressives-Understanding\/dp\/1602584648\">What Motivates Cultural Progressives<\/a><\/em> (on activists who oppose the Christian Right), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Many-Christians-Few-Lions-Christianophobia\/dp\/1442224061\/\"><em>So Many Christians, So Few Lions<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(on anti-Christian sentiment in America).<\/p>\n<p><strong>* <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Americans-Spirit-Capitalism-REFLECTION-RELIGION\/dp\/0197617913\/\">Asian Americans and the Spirit of Racial Capitalism<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, by Baylor religion professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/religion\/index.php?id=933204\">Jonathan Tran<\/a>, was honored by <a href=\"https:\/\/englewoodreview.org\/dec-7-jonathan-tran-asian-americans-and-the-spirit-of-racial-capitalism-advent-calendar\/\">the <em>Englewood Review of Books<\/em> as the &#8220;best theology book of 2022.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Englewood&#8217;s reviewer described Dr. Tran&#8217;s book as &#8220;a healing balm&#8221; in &#8220;our racially-charged, politicized age,&#8221; and applauded the book for &#8220;depicting how racism in America is inherently and historically tied to political economy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tran came to Baylor in 2006 after earning his M.Div. and Ph.D. from Duke. He served as faculty-in-residence for Memorial and Alexander halls from 2010-15, faculty steward for Baylor&#8217;s Honors College from 2015-18,\u00a0and was voted Collins Outstanding Professor of the Year by Baylor seniors in 2017. His previous books include <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Vietnam-War-Theologies-Memory-Eternity\/dp\/1405183209\/\">The Vietnam War and Theologies of Memory<\/a><\/em> (a theological analysis of America&#8217;s war in Vietnam) and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Foucault-Theology-Philosophy-Jonathan-Tran\/dp\/0567033422\/\">Foucault and Theology<\/a><\/em> (on the ideas of French philosopher Michel Foucault).<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Drs.
