In celebration of National Mascot Day (June 17), we&#8217;re taking a look back through Baylor mascot history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The tradition of a costumed Bear mascot began in 1981, when the first man-in-a-bear-suit debuted at Baylor basketball games, sponsored by Wendy\u2019s. (That&#8217;s the Wendy&#8217;s Bear below, posing with Baylor men&#8217;s basketball coach Jim Haller and athletic director Bill Menefee.)
