As a child, Fort Worth native Channing Godfrey Peoples<\/a>, BA \u201999, was riveted by the annual Miss Juneteenth pageant. (The holiday<\/a> is a celebration of when the message of the United States\u2019 abolition of slavery finally reached Texas; today, it is celebrated today across the South.)<\/p>\n

Peoples — a Baylor theatre graduate\u00a0who was named one of Filmmaker<\/em> magazine\u2019s \u201c25 New Faces of Film<\/a>\u201d in 2018 — has turned that focus into her new film, Miss Juneteenth<\/a><\/em>, which was shot in Fort Worth last year. A trailer<\/a> for the film, which was both written and directed by Peoples, was released late last month:<\/p>\n
