If you know anything about Baylor, you probably know what they decided &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/graphics\/index.php?id=82352\">the green and gold we still fling today<\/a>. But do you know\u00a0<em>why<\/em> they selected those colors to represent all things Baylor?<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how it happened:\u00a0That spring, a group of Baylor students &#8212; including two\u00a0members of the committee charged with choosing Baylor&#8217;s school colors &#8212; was traveling to Bryan by train to\u00a0participate in a debate tournament. As is typical for spring in Texas,\u00a0the trees were filling in with green and the fields were abloom. While looking out the window, student <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=dZE733I4ImIC&amp;pg=PA64&amp;lpg=PA64&amp;dq=baylor+green+and+gold+glee+club+1897&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=0DrlcVmHS1&amp;sig=F8QmKpF6-wmdlPAa0k0Pf2sb5Qw&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwii1aG0wOXSAhWI7iYKHYj0BWEQ6AEINjAJ#v=onepage&amp;q=baylor%20green%20and%20gold%20glee%20club%201897&amp;f=false\/\">Sara Rose Kendall<\/a>\u00a0(BL 1902),\u00a0was taken by a field filled with dandelions, and thought it made a \u201clovely combination.\u201d She reported her observation back to the committee, and they agreed;\u00a0shortly thereafter, green and gold made their historic debut as school colors at a Baylor Glee Club concert on March 25, 1897.<\/p>\n<p>By 1931, they were enough a part of the culture to be\u00a0included in <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2016\/04\/how-did-that-good-old-baylor-line-become-our-school-song\/\">the lyrics to the school song<\/a>. &#8220;We&#8217;ll fling our green and gold afar to light the ways of time,&#8221; we promise together in song as we sing &#8220;That Good Old Baylor Line&#8221; at athletic events, graduation ceremonies and other Baylor family gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, and happy anniversary to the green and gold!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the spring of 1897, Baylor officials tasked a committee of students with selecting the right school colors.
