One of those graduates is Stephanie Wright, BSED \u201916 &#8212; who was just named a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.baylor.edu\/soe\/2017\/01\/23\/baylor-student-named-student-teacher-of-the-year-for-texas-01232017\/\" target=\"_blank\">Texas Student Teacher of the Year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wright graduated <em>summa cum laude<\/em>\u00a0last spring with the goal of working with students in special education, then completed her student-teaching experience at Midway ISD\u2019s Hewitt Elementary (just outside Waco). Her approach to teaching is simple, she says: be caring and compassionate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of my students have so many obstacles to overcome, but I believe in them,\u201d she says. \u201cThey bring out the best in me, and I know that education is the most important factor in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the instructional times, but mostly I love all the crazy little things that happen in between. My students constantly reminded me that childhood is fleeting and very precious. I felt blessed to be part of theirs for that short time we were together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The School of Education\u2019s heavy emphasis on experience in the classroom is what gave Wright\u00a0such a strong foundation when she began\u00a0student teaching. The state of Texas requires a minimum of 60 days of in-classroom experience for teacher verification &#8212; but Baylor goes well above that, requiring its graduates get at\u00a0least 100 days in real classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Not one to become complacent with her teaching methods, Wright\u00a0is now back at Baylor pursuing a master\u2019s degree in applied behavior analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Stephanie!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, Baylor\u2019s School of Education graduates roughly 100 eager, wide-eyed future teachers.
