Her\u00a0previous two books &#8212; <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/River-Doubt-Theodore-Roosevelts-Darkest\/dp\/0767913736\/\">River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt\u2019s Darkest Journey<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Destiny-Republic-Madness-Medicine-President\/dp\/0767929713\/\">Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President<\/a><\/em> (on the assassination of James Garfield) &#8212; were each bestsellers. <em>River of Doubt<\/em> was also named a best book of the year by <em>The New York Times<\/em>, and <em>Destiny of the Republic<\/em> won the Edgar Award for Best Crime Fact Book in 2012.
