{"id":1847,"date":"2009-07-21T08:50:44","date_gmt":"2009-07-21T13:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baylorproud.wpengine.com\/?p=1847"},"modified":"2009-07-21T08:50:44","modified_gmt":"2009-07-21T13:50:44","slug":"passionate-supporter-of-baylor-faculty-passes-at-79","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2009\/07\/passionate-supporter-of-baylor-faculty-passes-at-79\/","title":{"rendered":"Passionate supporter of Baylor faculty passes at 79"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"mcmullen-july09-2\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/mcmullen-july09-2.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Faber and Roxanna McMullen\" width=\"225\" height=\"257\" \/>I was sorry to hear yesterday of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=59754\" target=\"_blank\">the passing of Dr. Faber McMullen<\/a>, a longtime Baylor supporter who, along with his wife Roxanna, made the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=53466\" target=\"_blank\">McMullen-Connally Faculty Center<\/a> possible just last year.<\/p>\n<p>I got to meet Dr. McMullen (BS &#8217;53, MD &#8217;56) at the Faculty Center&#8217;s dedication last year, and he was quite an interesting man. Despite being surrounded by dozens of friends and well-wishers, he took time to speak with me for at least 15 minutes. That conversation covered a variety of topics, from politics to his career, but always came back to his love for Baylor, and his thankfulness for the professors &#8212; people like Dr. Robert B. Alexander, Dr. Cornelia Marschall Smith, Dr. John Haley and Dr. Joseph Gast &#8212; who had helped launch him into his medical career.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. McMullen and his wife wanted to give back to Baylor in honor of such professors, and decided that the creation of a new faculty center was the best way for them to do that. Coincidentally, I had my first opportunity to dine in the McMullen-Connally Faculty Center yesterday, and it was quite a treat &#8212; a definite blessing for Baylor&#8217;s faculty and staff!<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, Dr. and Mrs. McMullen, for so graciously supporting Baylor University!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was sorry to hear yesterday of the passing of Dr. Faber McMullen, a longtime Baylor supporter who, along with his wife Roxanna, made the McMullen-Connally Faculty Center possible just last year.
