If you\u2019ve checked Facebook,\u00a0your local news, or even just surfed the Internet this week,\u00a0you\u2019ve probably heard this story by now — but you might not have\u00a0heard all the details.<\/p>\n

Since it was first reported\u00a0by Waco\u00a0news station KWTX<\/a>, this tale has\u00a0been shared by dozens of\u00a0media outlets, including People<\/a><\/em> magazine, NBC’s TODAY<\/a><\/em>, ABC’s Good Morning America<\/a><\/em>, the Huffington Post<\/a>, Cosmopolitan<\/a>, and so many more. Literally millions of people across the United States have seen this story — and therefore have seen just how much\u00a0Baylor\u00a0professors care for their\u00a0students.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t heard the story, here\u2019s what happened:<\/p>\n

Katy Humphrey, a U.S. Marine and full-time college student, wife and mother, had her babysitter cancel on her at the last minute. Not one to miss class, her only option was to take her 4-month-old daughter, Millie, to class.<\/p>\n

She\u2019d hoped Millie wouldn\u2019t be too disruptive to the class, but not long into the lecture, she became fussy. But rather than shaming Katy or asking her leave class, the professor — Dr. Darryn Willoughby<\/a> — just walked on over, picked her up, and kept on lecturing without missing a beat.<\/p>\n

Millie was absolutely content in his arms for the rest of the class. “I didn’t want [Katy] to feel uncomfortable, because there was nothing to feel uncomfortable about,\u201d says Willoughby, an associate professor of health, human performance and recreation and director of Baylor’s\u00a0Exercise and Biochemical Nutrition Laboratory.\u00a0“Taking care of others in a time of need and when it is not a time of need, just loving and caring about others — that\u2019s God’s purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n

What a great example of the caring community\u00a0we’re blessed with here at Baylor!<\/p>\n
