If it’s been awhile since you visited the Baylor campus, make sure you come hungry the next time you visit.<\/p>\n
Students who live on or near campus have never had it so good. In addition to the old stand-bys near campus (think Whataburger, Fazoli’s, McAlister’s, etc.), the on-campus\u00a0dining options have been dramatically improved in recent years, from the addition of East Village<\/a> to the renovation of Penland<\/a> and Memorial<\/a>.<\/p>\n But it’s the off-campus eateries surrounding the Baylor campus that have attracted the most attention this year.\u00a0Across I-35, within walking distance from campus, five new eateries have gone up in just the last two years:\u00a0In-N-Out Burger, Torchy\u2019s Tacos, Twisted Root Burger Co., Freddy\u2019s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, and a new Chick-Fil-A. And the growth isn’t stopping; the Waco Tribune-Herald<\/em> reported<\/a> in January that\u00a0Chipotle, Pie Five Pizza, Steel City Pops, Raising Cane\u2019s, Panera Bread, Smoothie King, Jersey Mike’s and Wok Box Fresh Asian Kitchen are all set to join the area, near I-35 between Fourth and Eighth\u00a0streets — with more still to come.<\/p>\n And nobody can ignore the food truck explosion<\/a> in Waco. Every day at the corner of University Parks and Franklin Avenue, between campus and downtown and\u00a0just off the banks of the Brazos River, a veritable food court’s worth of food trucks sets up shop.\u00a0Tandoori Trailer<\/a> offers Indian food; Xristo\u2019s Caf\u00e9<\/a>, Greek; and\u00a0Mi Cali Bella<\/a>, Colombian and Latin American. (Plus\u00a0Mrs. Thompson\u2019s Most Wonderful Cupcakes<\/a>!)<\/p>\n Even more trucks have made their home at the new Magnolia Market at the Silos<\/a> downtown; the regular lineup includes\u00a0Cheddar Box<\/a> (sandwiches), Milo Provisions<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Co-Town Cr\u00eapes<\/a>\u00a0(both breakfast\/brunch offerings), Club Sandwich<\/a> (“Asian food, American style”)\u00a0and 900 Degrees Pizzeria<\/a>\u00a0(wood-fired pizza).<\/p>\n Many of these trucks and even more set up at Baylor and Waco events, from the Waco Downtown Farmers Market<\/a>\u00a0(every Saturday morning, just down the river from campus) to special events like Diadeloso<\/a>, 4th on the Brazos<\/a> and Waco Wonderland<\/a>.<\/p>\n The point is, this isn\u2019t the Waco you used to know. Things are changing; you can feel it every time you drive along\u00a0I-35 or stop\u00a0downtown.
