A Baylor alum who started in the stockroom of a growing company in the 1980s is now the president and COO<\/a> of that same company — which just so happens to be\u00a0the largest private publisher of Christian books in the world.<\/p>\n

Last month, Jeff Johnson, BS \u201985, was named president and chief operating officer of Tyndale House<\/a>, a longtime publisher with a\u00a0roster that includes bestsellers like the Left Behind<\/em> series<\/a>, popular devotionals and Bible adaptations like The Living Bible<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and The One Year Bible<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>and memoirs of sports figures<\/a> such as\u00a0Emmitt Smith, Drew Brees and Tony Dungy.<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s journey from the stockroom to the executive suite\u00a0at Tyndale began shortly after his graduation from Baylor. He joined the company as a stock runner in 1986 and was elevated to director of human resources two years later. By the late 1990s, he was serving as\u00a0vice president of publishing services; in that role, he led the publishing division in a strong growth period, spurred by the success of the Left Behind<\/em> series, which sold over 60 million copies.<\/p>\n

Tyndale was founded<\/a> nearly six decades ago by Dr. Kenneth Taylor, whose goal was \u201cto make Scripture accessible to all people.\u201d Johnson is just the third president in company history, following Dr. Taylor and his son,\u00a0Mark, who has been\u00a0promoted\u00a0to CEO and chairman of the board.
