First awarded in 1991, the award\u00a0remains\u00a0our country\u2019s only national award presented by a college or university for exceptional teaching, and carries with it an exceptional monetary reward for both the professor and his\/her school &#8212; evidence of Baylor\u2019s commitment to providing our students with top teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/mediacommunications\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=164820&amp;_buref=1172-91940\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Cherry Award recipient is Dr. Michelle Hebl<\/a>, a professor of psychology at Rice University.\u00a0Hebl\u00a0is expected to teach in residence at Baylor during the spring 2017 semester.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ARtAPwlYhyU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After earning degrees from\u00a0from Smith College, Texas A&amp;M and Dartmouth, <a href=\"http:\/\/business.rice.edu\/Michelle_Hebl\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hebl<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ARtAPwlYhyU\" target=\"_blank\">taught at Rice<\/a> since 1998 (with the exception of a six-month stint as a visiting scholar at Stanford). A five-time recipient of Rice&#8217;s George R. Brown Prize for Superior Teaching, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.owlnet.rice.edu\/~hebl\/\/Mikki_Hebl\/Homepage.html\" target=\"_blank\">Hebl<\/a> has also been honored for her work in the classroom at the national level by the\u00a0Society of Industrial\/Organizational Psychology. She\u00a0has received research grants from the National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation and the National Cancer Institute, and in 2005 became the first Rice professor ever nominated and chosen by Rice students as the university&#8217;s Commencement Speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Hebl and her husband, David, have five children.
