With heavy rain, thunderstorms and even flash flooding in the forecast for this weekend, Baylor officials made the difficult call Thursday to make major changes to the Homecoming schedule<\/a> — most notably moving Extravaganza and Pep Rally from Fountain Mall to the Waco Convention Center, and canceling the\u00a0bonfire and parade.<\/p>\n Baylor family, it’s up to you to decide to\u00a0make the best of this. Think of it as an opportunity for new memories.\u00a0Remember the 2010 Homecoming game, when we huddled together under the Floyd Casey bleachers for two hours<\/a> waiting out a rain delay to see the Bears become bowl-eligible? (That even led to this amazing God\u00a0story from a visiting fan<\/a>.)<\/p>\n And while I’m sure it was a difficult decision to cancel the parade,\u00a0it’s not the first time that’s happened; check out this 1936 Lariat article<\/a>. (Hopefully we’ll get to see the floats on display at a future date, like the Baylor press release<\/a> noted. Maybe before the OU game?)<\/p>\n If your personal Homecoming schedule typically revolves around the bonfire and parade, perhaps this is the year that you\u00a0try something new.\u00a0Many of the major Homecoming events will continue as scheduled: Mass Meeting<\/a>, Pigskin<\/a>, class reunion events<\/a>, and the football game<\/a>.<\/p>\n Extravaganza<\/a> will take on a new form downtown, featuring inflatables, free refreshments, Homecoming history exhibits, plus the Golden Wave Band, Baylor Spirit Squad, head coach Art Briles and the Baylor football team, while\u00a0Singspiration<\/a> continues a 60-year-old tradition of bringing the\u00a0Baylor family together for worship and praise during Homecoming.<\/p>\n The choice is yours, Bears; let the\u00a0weather rain on your parade (literally), or\u00a0decide to have fun anyways.
