{"id":171,"date":"2007-11-19T11:55:27","date_gmt":"2007-11-19T17:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2007\/11\/19\/why-baylor-law-stands-out\/"},"modified":"2007-11-19T11:55:27","modified_gmt":"2007-11-19T17:55:27","slug":"why-baylor-law-stands-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2007\/11\/why-baylor-law-stands-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Baylor law stands out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/bu-law-student.jpg\" alt=\"Baylor law student\" align=\"right\" \/>I know we&#8217;ve written a lot about <a href=\"http:\/\/law.baylor.edu\/\">Baylor Law School<\/a> recently, what with <a href=\"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2007\/11\/05\/baylor-law-leads-texas-in-bar-exam-pass-rate\/\">its students leading the state in bar exam pass rate<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2007\/10\/26\/tough-competition\/\">earning nods from The Princeton Review<\/a>. But <em>Texas Lawyer<\/em> ran such a good article on Baylor law that I felt I had to mention it. The article examines <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.com\/jsp\/tx\/PubArticleTX.jsp?hubtype=TxCaseAlert&amp;id=1194602638963\">why Baylor&#8217;s bar exam pass rate is so high year after year<\/a>. Three quotes jumped out at me:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Part of the genius of what Baylor is doing is requiring the students&#8217; work ethic to be at an all-time high in their third year. There is no let up, no coasting \u2014 that momentum takes them into the bar review period, and it pays off.&#8221; <em>&#8212; South Texas College of Law Dean James Alfini <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have argued cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court and the 5th Circuit, but I have never been as frightened as I was in Practice Court. After that, the bar exam was really pretty easy.&#8221; &#8212; <em>former Texas governor and Baylor law grad Mark White<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ethos at Baylor is that the professors are teachers first and scholars second. Their focus is on the teaching. The school is clear about its mission: that it is very student-centric.&#8221; &#8212; <em>former University of Houston law dean Nancy Rapoport<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But really, if you&#8217;re interested in Baylor law, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.com\/jsp\/tx\/PubArticleTX.jsp?hubtype=TxCaseAlert&amp;id=1194602638963\">read the whole article<\/a>.
