\u201cWhatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord\u2026\u201d \u2013 Colossians 3:23<\/em><\/p>\n Faculty and staff at Baylor University really take this verse to heart. At the 2015 Service Recognition Ceremony<\/a> last month,\u00a0the university recognized three Bears in particular who have dedicated the majority\u00a0of their lives \u2013 nearly 50 years\u00a0each \u2013 to Baylor.<\/p>\n —-<\/p>\n Tommye Lou Davis<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0BA ’66, MS ’68,\u00a0has held countless responsibilities at Baylor: Latin professor, associate dean, acting department chair, Kappa Kappa Gamma advisor, and now her current dual roles as Vice President for Constituent Engagement and Chief of Staff to the President.<\/p>\n Throughout her 45 years at Baylor (which doesn’t include her time\u00a0as a student here), Davis has witnessed exponential growth at the university \u2013 and not just in size. \u201cSince I began teaching, campus has doubled, student body size has doubled, and academic capacity has doubled,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I first started teaching, the campus was from 8th Street to 5th Street. \u2026 What a beautiful campus we have. It\u2019s the beauty of the place aesthetically as well as the beautiful spirit that you find at Baylor that is unique.\u201d<\/p>\n —-<\/p>\n Jerry Milner<\/strong>\u2019s first day of work at Baylor was Oct.\u00a08, 1969, inside the Marrs McLean and Sid Richardson buildings \u2013 which were at that time considered the larger buildings on campus. Later, \u201cthey moved me over to the new science building, which is huge,” he laughs. “I\u2019ve been there since they opened it, and I still get lost in there!\u201d<\/p>\n Milner is the Baylor Sciences Building<\/a>‘s go-to repairman for electronic equipment, primarily those used for experiments in the BSB. \u201cIf someone in the science department has a major repair, then I drop everything and do that,\u201d he says. \u201cThat keeps their teaching labs and experimental labs operating.\u201d<\/p>\n —-<\/p>\n Dr. Tom Kelly<\/a><\/strong>, MA ’64, has been a professor in Baylor\u2019s Hankamer School of Business<\/a> since the fall of 1969. Today, he also serves as director of the Baylor Center for Business and Economic Research<\/a> and graduate program director for the\u00a0Department of Economics<\/a>. \u201cIn the Baylor Economics Department, Tom is a \u2018utility player\u2019 who can teach any course, a graduate director who cares deeply for our students, and a wonderful colleague who is always ready to help,\u201d says\u00a0Dr. Steve Gardner, who has taught alongside Kelly in the business school since 1978.<\/p>\n When Kelly is\u00a0asked what made him stay so long at Baylor, he doesn’t hesitate. \u201cEvery day when you go to work, you enjoy it; you look forward to going to work,\u201d he says. \u201cI don\u2019t know too many people out there that really have that attitude, that feeling of \u2018This is where I want to be.\u2019 That\u2019s why when people come to Baylor, they stay.\u201d<\/p>\n Sic\u00a0\u2019em, longtime Bears!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u201cWhatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord\u2026\u201d \u2013 Colossians 3:23 Faculty and staff at Baylor University really take this verse to heart.
