{"id":16184,"date":"2015-03-14T21:00:25","date_gmt":"2015-03-14T21:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baylorproud.wpengine.com\/?p=16184"},"modified":"2015-03-15T00:41:20","modified_gmt":"2015-03-15T00:41:20","slug":"incoming-freshman-class-to-be-among-the-most-selective-in-school-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2015\/03\/incoming-freshman-class-to-be-among-the-most-selective-in-school-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Incoming freshman class to be among the most selective in school history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16186\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/admissions-mar15.jpg\" alt=\"Baylor students\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/admissions-mar15.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/admissions-mar15-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve had a hunch that more people across the country and around the world are taking notice of Baylor, here\u2019s one more indication that you\u2019re right: The fall 2015 incoming class is shaping up to be the most selective in school history.<\/p>\n<p>While numbers are not quite final, the acceptance rate is currently at 44% &#8212; a full 10 points lower than last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe demand for a Baylor education simply outweighs our capacity,\u201d says\u00a0Jennifer Carron, assistant vice president of admission services. \u201cThe academic ability of this group is on track to be the best we\u2019ve ever seen, so we are having to take extra time to identify the best applicants all around.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Because of the high demand for a Baylor education, more than 3,000 applicants have been invited to join a wait list in the event that space in the entering class does become available.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few more notables:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More legacy students than ever are continuing the Baylor tradition and making plans to enroll in the fall.<\/li>\n<li>Interest from students outside of Texas is on the rise.\u00a0The incoming class could include the most out-of-state students in school history.<\/li>\n<li>Prospective students are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/visit\/\" target=\"_blank\">flocking to campus<\/a> to see firsthand what makes Baylor special. More than 45,000 visitors have already\u00a0flowed through the Wiethorn Visitors Center this year &#8212; a pace that would break last year&#8217;s record total of 54,000 visitors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The increased interest in attending Baylor parallels other rises across the university in recent years, from historic <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2014\/09\/baylor-earns-best-ever-u-s-news-ranking\/\" target=\"_blank\">academic rankings<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2015\/01\/reflecting-on-a-historic-four-years-for-baylor-football\/\" target=\"_blank\">athletic success<\/a>\u00a0to record-setting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2014\/08\/move2bu-ready-to-welcome-baylors-class-of-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\">enrollment numbers<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2014\/03\/baylor-nation-unites-for-most-successful-fundraising-year-ever\/\" target=\"_blank\">fundraising.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sic\u00a0\u2019em, future bears!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019ve had a hunch that more people across the country and around the world are taking notice of Baylor, here\u2019s one more indication that you\u2019re right: The fall 2015 incoming class is shaping up to be the most selective in school history.
