For the fifth straight year, a Baylor Lady Bear is the Big 12\u00a0Player of the Year<\/a> for women’s basketball.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Nina Davis became the third different Baylor student-athlete to claim the honor during the program’s five-year run, following Brittney Griner (2011-12-13) and Odyssey Sims (2014). The second-year forward from Memphis\u00a0leads the Big 12 in scoring (20.7 ppg) and ranks third in rebounding (8.6 rpg).<\/p>\n

But that wasn’t the Lady Bears’ only honor.\u00a0For the fourth time in five years, Kim Mulkey was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. This season, Mulkey led a young team (Baylor’s top five scorers are all either freshmen or sophomores) to its fifth straight regular season Big 12 title<\/a> — the fourth-longest such streak in conference history across any sport.<\/p>\n

Davis and\u00a0junior Niya Johnson were unanimous selections to the All-Big 12 first team, while senior Sune Agbuke made the league’s All-Defensive Team and Kristy Wallace made the All-Freshman Team.\u00a0Sophomore Khadijiah Cave\u00a0earned the league’s Sixth Man Award, an honor previously won by Lady Bears Melissa Jones (2009) and Destiny Williams (2013).<\/p>\n

After a first-round bye, Baylor\u00a0opens up the 2015 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship<\/a> Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (FSN) against either Kansas or Kansas State.<\/p>\n
