After the flag has flown over those landmarks, it\u00a0is returned to the Navy, where it is\u00a0presented to the retiring service member at his\/her retirement ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Navy Commander Randall Green, BA &#8217;89,\u00a0will retire next month after 27 years of honorable naval service. He chose two locations for his Navy ensign to fly: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/valr\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">U.S.S. Arizona Memorial<\/a> at Pearl Harbor, and\u00a0his alma mater.<\/p>\n<p>Monday, Green&#8217;s ensign flew over campus in Baylor&#8217;s Ring of Honor, just outside Pat Neff Hall. (The <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/2013\/08\/a-congressional-medal-of-honor-recipient-american-hero-and-baylor-legend\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ring of Honor<\/a> recognizes the university&#8217;s two Medal of Honor winners and a former Air Force Chief of Chaplains.) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/afrotc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Baylor&#8217;s Air Force ROTC<\/a> led a brief ceremony Monday afternoon as the flag was lowered, with remarks from\u00a0university dignitaries and musical performances by two Baylor students. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.10152801556086926.1073742024.61388081925&amp;type=1\" target=\"_blank\">Click here for photos from the ceremony.<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>That Commander Green would choose\u00a0to recognize his alma mater during his retirement ceremony seems appropriate, given that his service to the country began at Baylor. &#8220;I joined the Navy at the beginning of my junior year to help pay for school,&#8221; he recalls. &#8220;It was one of those delayed entry programs that allowed me to finish my degree before I left for Aviation Officer&#8217;s Candidate School.
