Just a couple of years\u00a0ago, Baylor didn’t even have a club golf team. Now, the Bears have\u00a0won a national championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n Baylor Club Golf<\/a> is a student-led organization that gives students who don’t make an NCAA squad the\u00a0opportunity to continue playing competitive golf in college. Founded in October 2012, the Baylor team has grown both in number and skill as they compete in the NCCGA Texas Region. Last fall, the team tied for second\u00a0at the national tournament in Myrtle Beach, and the Bears followed that up by winning the Texas Region earlier this semester.<\/p>\n But it was the Spring 2014 NCCGA National Championship in New Jersey that proved to be the team’s best moment yet. The Baylor squad\u00a0traveled to the 36-hole stroke play event in late April, competing in a\u00a0tournament field that featured 25 teams\u00a0from across the country, including such schools as Florida, Ohio State and\u00a0Missouri.<\/p>\n After the first day of play, Baylor was\u00a0tied for fourth, trailing the leader by three strokes. But an incredible second day saw the Bears outplay their nearest competitor by 16 strokes, giving Baylor an impressive 18-stroke win<\/a>. (For comparison, that’s the same number of strokes that separated\u00a0the teams that finished second and 10th.)\u00a0With the win, Baylor Club Golf joined the 2001 Baylor rugby team<\/a> as the only Baylor club sports ever to win a national championship.<\/p>\n Sic \u2019em, Baylor Club Golf!<\/p>\n
