{"id":140,"date":"2007-10-31T09:19:15","date_gmt":"2007-10-31T15:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homepages.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2007\/10\/31\/immortal-10-statue-dedication-this-friday\/"},"modified":"2007-10-31T09:19:15","modified_gmt":"2007-10-31T15:19:15","slug":"immortal-10-statue-dedication-this-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2007\/10\/immortal-10-statue-dedication-this-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Immortal 10 memorial dedication this Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/immortal10.jpg\" alt=\"Immortal 10 statue\" align=\"right\" \/>Some 80 years after a group of students on their way to a Baylor basketball game were killed in a tragic accident, a physical monument dedicated to the <a href=\"http:\/\/baylorbears.cstv.com\/trads\/bay-immortal-10.html\">Immortal 10<\/a> is finally in place on campus &#8212; just in time for this weekend&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/homecoming\">99th anniversary Homecoming celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At times, it seemed like the memorial might never happen. It wasn&#8217;t until almost 70 years after the accident that a plan was finally put in place, and even then, it was over a decade longer before <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/pr\/news.php?action=story&amp;story=46042\">the memorial was erected this summer<\/a>. But the piece, created by sculptor Bruce Green, was worth the wait.<\/p>\n<p>The story of the Immortal 10 is recited each year during Homecoming at the Freshman Mass Meeting, so it seems appropriate that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baylor.edu\/homecoming\/index.php?id=47741\">dedication of the memorial will take place this Friday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sic \u2019em, in remembrance of the Immortal 10!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some 80 years after a group of students on their way to a Baylor basketball game were killed in a tragic accident, a physical monument dedicated to the Immortal 10 is finally in place on campus &#8212; just in time for this weekend&#8217;s 99th anniversary Homecoming celebration.
