A 2000 study by Christianity Today<\/em> found C.S. Lewis to be the most influential Christian author of the 20th century<\/a>. Whether you\u2019ve studied C.S. Lewis’ works for a doctoral dissertation or merely enjoyed\u00a0The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe <\/em>in school (or a movie theater), there’s no disputing the man’s influence.<\/p>\n

With this Friday marking the 50th anniversary of his passing, it only makes sense that one of the world’s leading Christian universities — Baylor — would be the site for a conference on the man and his work.<\/div>\n

A weeklong celebration of the famed writer, “C.S. Lewis and his Contributions to Christian Thought<\/a><\/strong>,” begins today and picks back up this Friday and Saturday, attracting speakers and interested scholars from around the nation. The conference<\/a> is the first sponsored by Baylor\u2019s Program in Philosophical Studies of Religion; its itinerary notes that “C.S. Lewis may be best known for his literary works … but (he) held a deep and powerful belief in God that permeated his life’s work.”<\/p>\n

Topics include Lewis\u2019 moral argument for God\u2019s existence, Lewis on the problem of animal suffering, and learning in wartime. Among the list of distinguished speakers is a Baylor philosophy professor, Dr. C. Stephen Evans, who fittingly won the C.S. Lewis Book Prize competition last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n
