{"id":12025,"date":"2013-06-11T15:08:19","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T15:08:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baylorproud.wpengine.com\/?p=12025"},"modified":"2013-06-11T15:08:19","modified_gmt":"2013-06-11T15:08:19","slug":"baylor-engineering-students-creativity-leads-to-devices-for-veterans-and-disabled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/baylorproud\/2013\/06\/baylor-engineering-students-creativity-leads-to-devices-for-veterans-and-disabled\/","title":{"rendered":"Baylor engineering students&#8217; creativity leads to devices for veterans and disabled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"rogg-veterans-june13\" src=\"https:\/\/www2.baylor.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/rogg-veterans-june13.jpg\" alt=\"Baylor students serve veterans\" width=\"225\" height=\"255\" \/>I love these stories of Baylor students putting what they learn in the classroom to work serving others&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, 19 Baylor engineering students worked with nursing and engineering students at the University of Detroit-Mercy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/article\/20130515\/NEWS05\/305150174\/Students-create-devices-help-disabled-veterans\" target=\"_blank\">to design, build and deliver devices that met specific needs of three disabled veterans<\/a>; a fourth team worked to develop a car seat that would be easier on disabled mothers. The yearlong projects were sponsored by the Kern Family Foundation to promote teamwork between universities and to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset among engineering students.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, some of the Baylor students got to travel to Detroit and deliver their products to the veterans in person.
