• Baylor’s 2020 commercial continues “Where Lights Shine Bright” theme

A new school year and a new football season present a new opportunity to share what Baylor is all about. Baylor’s 2020 university commercial will debut on television during Baylor football’s season opener, but we’ve got a first look for the Baylor Family here:

The 30-second spot captures campus life and traditions, students engaged in research and study, and the beauty of the Baylor campus. The fast-paced images are set to the music and lyrics of Elevation Worship’s “Let It Shine,” highlighting Baylor’s faith foundation (and providing a nod to the tagline “Where Lights Shine Bright”). The spot will be televised regularly across a variety of networks during Baylor sporting events this year, with shorter versions also appearing in the university’s digital advertising efforts.

To bring the ad to life, 35 students and faculty members gave of their time both on campus and off — at Armstrong Browning Library, Fountain Mall, the Pullin Family Marina and other iconic campus locations. Three featured faculty members also welcomed the crew inside their labs or invited them into the field. Viewers will see students working on an electric car with energy systems professor Annette von Jouanne, studying lasers with engineering and computer science assistant professor Min Pack and exploring local creek beds with environmental science associate professor Cole Matson.

The ad was produced with the health of cast and crew in mind by the university’s award-winning advertising agency of record, Johnson & Sekin of Dallas, and director Norry Niven. The shooting schedule limited travel and utilized only a small crew in the active recording spaces. Everyone involved went through daily COVID-19 screening, social distancing was observed, and everyone involved wore masks except while on camera.

“Sharing the Baylor story is always a tremendous opportunity, and the new institutional spot illuminates so much of what makes Baylor special,” says Baylor Vice President of Marketing & Communications and Chief Marketing Officer Jason Cook. “Areas like student-faculty interaction, meaningful research, student life and our faith foundation are central to who we are, and it’s exciting to know that millions of viewers will experience that through this beautiful commercial that is filled with hope for the future.”

    Sic ’em, Bears!
