Congratulations, Baylor Class of 2020!
Congratulations, Class of 2020 — you did it.
No class in Baylor’s 175-year history has had a senior year quite like yours, and certainly not a Senior Week or graduation weekend like yours. But while missing out on such traditions is sad, they don’t diminish the fact that you did it. You graduated. And that is worth celebrating.
With this spring’s roughly 3,000 graduates flung far and wide, as shelter-in-place orders and social distancing prevented traditional graduation events and ceremonies, Baylor did its best to celebrate #BU20 online. In case you missed it, here’s a look back:
On Monday, a host of Baylor professors shared their encouragements and advice via Baylor social media:
On Tuesday, Baylor professor Blair Browning and President Linda Livingstone hosted a slew of special guests during a virtual Dr Pepper Live, hosted on Zoom and Facebook:
Also Tuesday, the McLane Carillon (Pat Neff bells) rang out with a special concert to honor the Class of 2020, playing favorite songs that had been picked based on a online poll:
On Wednesday, Baylor Career Center experts hosted Facebook Live sessions to share tips on finding a job in these unusual times, building an ideal resume and acing an interview.
On Thursday, prominent Baylor alumni such as RG3, Drayton McLane and Trey Wingo shared their hopes for #BU20 via social media:
On Saturday, the name of each and every #BaylorGrad was run on the McLane Stadium videoboard; a livestream carried on Facebook reached more than 300,000 people:
Finally, President Livingstone capped off the week by hosting a conversation with Student Body President (and graduating senior) Sloane Simpson, in which the pair of presidents looked back and ahead as they celebrated the Class of 2020:
Seniors — we know this wasn’t what you expected graduation to look like, but we hope you felt loved and honored all the same.
As you go, a few last reminders:
