Baylor alumna’s Waco eatery named among Yelp’s top 100 in the country
In January, Yelp released its list of the “Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. 2019“. While perusing the list, we noticed something quite exciting: sitting at No. 71 was Waco’s own Lula Jane’s, owned by Baylor alumna Nancy Grayson!
Lula Jane’s is a beloved local café in East Waco that, since 2012, has been serving local food and incredible baked goods. Named for Grayson’s grandmother, the café serves made-from-scratch baked goods, hot coffee and a daily lunch special using herbs and vegetables grown in Grayson’s on-site garden. If you’re a regular, you might be a fan of their weekly Thursday cake special.
Dr. Nancy Grayson, MSEd ’92, has spent decades investing in East Waco, from starting a public charter school (in response to poor performance on state tests) to replacing empty lots with beautiful homes near Elm Street. She even invests all profits from Lula Jane’s back into the people of East Waco.
So, treat yourself to a piece of cake at one of the Top 100 places to eat in the country!
Sic ’em, Lula Jane’s and Nancy Grayson!
