A Baylor grad built this incredibly accurate Lego Pat Neff Hall — and it’s displayed on campus
Back in 2016, we told you about a Baylor junior who designed a 5,000-piece Lego Pat Neff Hall. Over the course of two years, Stanton Bain had spent hours upon hours studying the walls of Pat Neff Hall, printing out pictures of aerial shots, close-ups and different angles, finding just the right blocks for accurate shape and scale, and selecting pieces worthy of representing the McLane Carillon and Judge Baylor’s statue.
This year, Stanton — now a Baylor graduate — finally got the funding he needed to make his design a reality and have it displayed on Baylor’s campus.
At 23.5 inches tall on a base 36 inches wide — and now made up of more than 8,000 pieces — it’s as close to scale as you can get using Lego pieces. And Stanton didn’t skimp on the details, either. On the model’s façade you’ll find the four phrases etched on the real Pat Neff Hall: “Wisdom is better than rubies”; “The youth of a nation are the trustees of posterity”; “The preservers of history are as heroic as its makers”; and “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.” At the top are cone-shaped Lego rocket pieces acting as bells for the McLane Carillon. In the front lawn are green and gold Lego flowers. And in the corner of the lawn is a shaggy-haired brunette Lego figurine — a representation of Stanton himself.
In total, Stanton told the Waco Tribune-Herald, this Lego model Pat Neff Hall took between 18 and 24 hours to build — and that’s after two years of designing it. The model was displayed in Moody Memorial Library during Homecoming, then was moved to its current home in the Mayborn Museum. Though you won’t be able to play with the Lego exhibit (I know, I was bummed too), it’s well worth a visit to the museum to see the masterpiece!
