• Baylor Model UN wins highest delegation — and their most awards yet — at national competition

Baylor’s Model United Nations broke a team record last month for the most awards received at the National Model United Nations Conference. Out of the nearly 3,000 student participants, the Baylor team of 16 students was named overall “Outstanding Delegation” — the conference’s highest possible team recognition award – and several team members won individual awards themselves.

For this conference, the Baylor team played the role of representing Iceland. They studied the country’s diplomatic stance, learning about the challenges the international community faces as it attempts to solve some of the most pressing contemporary issues in global security, human rights, development and sustainability.

In addition to the team awards, Baylor team members earned the highest individual award (“Outstanding Delegation in Committee”) from fellow participants in five of the eight committees in which they participated. Two of the Baylor delegations also received “Outstanding Position Paper Awards” for the researched policy memo they submitted in February.

“Baylor’s Model UN team is grateful for the support that the faculty and administration provide to the team and for the financial support provided by the department of political science and College of Arts & Sciences, in particular,” said Dr. Rebecca Flavin, senior lecturer in Baylor’s Department of Political Science. “Serving as the faculty adviser for this wonderful group of young men and women is always is a delight, but this year’s team was truly special.”

    Sic ’em, Baylor Model UN!
