• Christmas on 5th Street means the Christmas season has officially begun

    Baylor's Christmas on 5th Street

The most wonderful time of the year officially began Thursday night with one of Baylor’s most loved traditions, Christmas on 5th Street. Baylor Student Activities and KOT truly outdid themselves this year, presenting us with a Christmas on 5th that was a Winter Wonderland like never before.

Under the classic entryway arch, nutcrackers and candy canes lined the aisles. At the center of campus, a live nativity outside the Bill Daniel Student Center featured Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus (plus live camels and donkeys lounging around the stable). Horse-drawn carriages covered in lights and filled with families circled a green-and-red-lit fountain.

Over on Fountain Mall, students and families climbed into a life-size snow globe, skated on a faux ice rink, and slid down an epic inflatable slide. A Christmas tree farm, petting zoo, pony rides, a snowman bounce-house… The list of activities just goes on and on.

Inside the SUB, the wonderland continued. A Christmas market with local vendors filled the top floor. Upstairs, a walk through Candy Land led into a room for decorating cookies and writing notes to Santa, who was set up taking photos with Mrs. Claus in Barfield Drawing Room! Various choirs set the Christmas spirit, singing carols of all languages in the SUB Bowl.

All over campus, local businesses set up as vendors serving candy, coffee, dinner, ice cream, and more. Of course, crowds gathered around Burleson Quadrangle to watch the annual KOT Christmas Tree lighting. Live music played as both the tree and all of Burleson Quad lit up, accompanied by cannons of fake snow. With such a magical night filled with beautiful décor and amazing activities, it was hard not to join in on the Christmas spirit.

With finals rapidly approaching, Christmas on 5th serves as the perfect time to take a break from the craziness of school and life and celebrate the beauty of the Christmas season. Students, faculty/staff and Wacoans alike joined in celebrating the magic of this season and rejoicing in the truth that it brings — that Jesus Christ has come to Earth for us!

    Sic ’em, #BaylorChristmas!
