• #BearsOfBaylor — “So many have connections down in Houston.”

“We are here with Alpha Phi Omega, which is a co-ed service fraternity, and we run the blood drive twice a year. This semester is really special, because all the donations are going towards the victims in Houston. I’m hoping the purpose of this will touch the hearts of a lot more people, and hopefully they will be willing to donate this year since so many have connections down in Houston.

“I’m from Colorado, but my roommate is from Houston, and her whole street was flooded. They didn’t have power, and school was out for a week or something. She didn’t go home — I don’t think she could go home — but I know plenty of people who were affected.

“I volunteer at the hospice as well, and there’s this really sweet lady named Shirley. Every time I would go there she would wave to me from across the room, and she would, pretty much every time, show me all the rings she had on her fingers, and she would just tell me about whatever was on her mind. I would give her company, play bingo with her, and paint her nails. She was pretty much happy all the time, and she was so sweet regardless of the situation that she was in. She was definitely a role model for me.”
