• The highlight of Baylor football’s spring game? This special touchdown run.

Saturday’s Green and Gold Game was the first chance most fans got to see what Baylor football will look like under Matt Rhule. But the highlight of the day wasn’t the new coach, the new-look team, or even the touchdown scored by former men’s basketball standout Ish Wainwright; instead, it was a special play by longtime staffer Clint Lewis, who has Down Syndrome, that warmed hearts and made Clint a nationwide star.

Even if you don’t know Clint’s name, you’ve likely seen him at games. He’s a bona fide Baylor football all-star, having served the team for more than two decades. Clint doesn’t let his genetic disorder slow him one bit; in addition to working with the equipment staff, he has often led the team out of the tunnel and onto the field before games. And if that’s not enough, his sideline dance routines after a big Baylor play make the moment that much sweeter.

Saturday, the team honored him in the best way they knew how — by dialing up a play for him that led to his first touchdown with the Bears. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Clint slipped off the sideline and lined up as a wide receiver; wide receiver Denzel Mims took an option pass from teammate Tony Nicholson and handed the ball to Clint, who knew what to do with the football, racing 34 yards for the touchdown. He was surrounded by a convoy of blockers that ballooned into the entire team running into the end zone with him, dancing alongside him to celebrate the moment — a moment that showed just how much Clint means to them.

Clint’s touchdown was the highlight of the Green and Gold Game, and garnered attention from ESPN, CBS and other national outlets.

“That was a wonderful moment for Clint,” Coach Rhule said afterwards. “It was really exciting to see how much that really meant to our players. They kept dancing and dancing with him. It’s special when you know how much that person has given to you.”

    Sic ’em, Clint!
