• #BearsOfBaylor — “I’m having a good year. Got into grad school, won two competitions…”

“Baylor was the one place I auditioned [as a vocal performance (opera) major]. I like it here. … I’m having a good year. Got into grad school, won two competitions — I get to go to Carnegie Hall and sing in May, and I’m going to go to Germany to sing some opera. So, it’s been a good year.

“The competitions I’ve won have been pretty big deals, but honestly, I couldn’t have done any of it without [my professor, Dr. Curtis Streetman]. Just because he’s always been a constant supporter, where I feel like some others along my path have told me that I can’t. He’s never told me that I can’t. He’s never told anyone that they can’t do something that they want to do. He’s always believed in us and given us everything — every ounce of his free time, thought, soul and passion. He’s a great man; we love him.

“And this is my doggie, Angel. His name is Angelo, but I call him Angel. He’s blind in that eye. He’s old. We were out walking; he just fell a second ago. He jumped too far off a curb and he derped. He’s very clumsy and spazzy, but I love him.”
