• Official ‘@Baylor’ Twitter account tops 15,000 followers

@Baylor on TwitterThe official university Twitter account, @Baylor, crossed the 15,000 follower milestone shortly before Thanksgiving. (In fact, it has since topped 16,000 followers).

The account has seen tremendous growth since it launched a little over two years ago, thanks to an array of tweets that mix campus events, student and faculty honors, and alumni accomplishments with regular features like #MissionsMonday (sharing news of past and future Baylor mission trips) and Sunday’s Bible verse of the week (one of which earned more than 750 retweets earlier this fall).

Thanks to its inherent immediate delivery, Twitter (and specifically @Baylor) is also a top source for notifications and updates in case of emergency or inclement weather, including the ice storms that always threaten this time of year.

More than 16,000 followers is nothing to sneeze at, but we know we can do better. National surveys indicate about 15% of Americans use Twitter; that means that of Baylor’s 160,000 living alumni, about 25,000 should be on Twitter. And that doesn’t include parents, prospective students and other friends of the university who might also be interested.
