• LinkedIn University Page launches for Baylor alumni, students

    Baylor University on LinkedIn

In recent years, Baylor alumni have been able to connect to their alma mater (and one another) through a growing number of online tools such as Facebook and Twitter. Now you can add another site to the list: LinkedIn.

Last month, the social networking site for business — think Facebook, but more focused on business connections than friends — debuted University Pages, aimed at alumni, current students, even high school students researching potential colleges.

On Baylor’s LinkedIn page, you’ll find some pretty interesting information about what Baylor graduates are doing professionally. Visitors can see a breakdown of where Bears live and work — not only geographically, but also by field, employer and graduation year. Drilling down within any of those areas provides a list of alumni who have indicated on their LinkedIn profiles that they fit that demographic — say, business graduates working in New York City, or Austin-area grads skilled in community outreach. You can then see a list of those people with limited information on each (based on your level of LinkedIn membership).

Current students and young alumni: This is a great resource for finding connections at companies you want to work for, or in the new city you just moved to. For alumni who have been out of school a little longer, it’s a good place to find connections at the companies you work for and/or with on a regular basis.

Here’s the easy part: If you’re already on LinkedIn (and you’ve indicated you attended Baylor), you’re automatically connected to the page. (If you’re not on LinkedIn, click here to see what it’s all about and to sign up.) Baylor followers, which currently number more than 45,000, will also begin to see news and notes from the university showing up in their LinkedIn news feeds — stories related to Bears in the workplace and the university’s professional development offerings.

If you’re on LinkedIn but haven’t updated your profile in awhile — and especially if you don’t have your Baylor connection listed — now might be a good time to brush up that online resume.

    Sic ’em, Bears on LinkedIn!
