Basketball teams claim two Big 12 players of the week
While most of us were out celebrating Christmas and New Year’s, the Baylor men’s and women’s basketball teams were out continuing their winning ways. Two Bears in particular stepped up, giving Baylor the reigning men’s and women’s Big 12 Players of the Week.
Sophomore Danielle Wilson produced back-to-back double-doubles against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and St. John’s to claim her first conference player of the week honor, while junior Kevin Rogers averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds while leading the Bears to a pair of road victories at South Carolina and Southern.
The Lady Bears are now 10-1 on the season and rank 9th nationally in the latest AP poll; head coach Kim Mulkey’s team hosts North Carolina A&T tonight at the Ferrell Center. The Baylor men are 11-1, which has them receiving votes in both polls; a win over Arkansas Saturday at American Airlines Center in Dallas could boost head coach Scott Drew’s team into the top 25.
Sic ’em, Baylor basketball!
