Baylor softball celebrates win at Georgia

For the second time in four years, Baylor softball is headed to the Women’s College World Series!

Head coach Glenn Moore’s team kept the 2014 season going by upsetting No. 4 seed Georgia twice in Athens over the weekend in convincing fashion. Baylor ace Whitney Canion earned her 30th and 31st wins of the season, tying the program’s single season record; she was backed by three home runs from a Lady Bear offense that set a new school record for home runs in a season.

This marks the Lady Bears’ third College World Series appearance; Baylor also made the final eight in 2007 and 2011. Baylor, the No. 13 seed, will face No. 5 seed Florida in the first game of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament on Thursday at 11 a.m. (ESPN). All games will be played at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City; click here for ticket information. Let’s see some green and gold in OKC!

Of course, softball isn’t the only Baylor sport excelling in the postseason this spring:

All told, to date, 2013-14 has brought Baylor a BCS bowl, two Elite Eights, two more Sweet 16s, and a College World Series appearance.

Sic ’em, Baylor softball and all Baylor sports!
