• Alum picked as Texas nominee for National Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Jeff TurnerDr. Jeff Turner, a two-time graduate of Baylor’s School of Education, has been selected to represent the state of Texas as its nominee for the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year.

Turner, BSED ’77, EDD ’95, is now in his 10th year as Superintendent of Schools for Coppell ISD (northwest of Dallas), overseeing some 10,000 students across 15 campuses. He has worked both inside the district and beyond to improve education across Texas; his own schools have seen Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB) participation increase 40 percent, while Turner has worked with other area superintendents in the region and all over Texas in framing a new vision for public education.

He credits Baylor with having helped broaden his views of the world and education in particular. His wife, Libby, BS ’77, is also a Baylor grad, as are their children, Casey (BSED ’02) and Haley (BS ’06, JD ’09). Both are in education; Casey is a teacher in Fort Worth, while Haley practices school law in Austin.

Four finalists for Superintendent of the Year will be named in December, with the winner announced at a national conference in February.

    Sic ’em, Dr. Turner!
