• Alum’s vocals now heard every night at Walt Disney World and Disneyland

The newest show at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, “Magic, Memories, and You!“, is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The 10-minute light show is projected onto Cinderella’s Castle in Orlando (It’s a Small World in Anaheim) to tremendous 3-D effect and combines video from famous Disney works with photos of that day’s park guests, accompanied by a soundtrack featuring Baylor graduate Laura Brown Cooksey! (See the video below.)

That’s the voice of Cooksey, a 2001 School of Music graduate, that you hear at the beginning of the show and again during the finale. Now a professional singer in Nashville, Cooksey was asked some time back by one of the show’s producers to record a demo of the song for Disney. Several months later, she got word that the folks at Disney had liked her recording so much that they decided to use it with the final product!

While at Baylor, Cooksey sang with a Christian group called “Sign of Jonah.” She moved to Nashville after graduation and eventually found work singing background vocals and traveling with the Grammy-nominated Nicole C. Mullen. Today, she’s a background vocalist for former American Idol star Mandisa (including accompanying the performer back to Baylor in December for a performance during Christmas on 5th Street) and leads worship for Women of Faith conferences. When not on the road, she’s also a session singer in Nashville.

    Sic ’em, Laura!
