• RG3 carries Baylor name onto three watch lists for national football awards

U Monthly - Robert Griffin IIINational football experts apparently agree with the adage that “you can’t keep a good man down.” Even after missing nine games last fall due to a knee injury, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III has already been named to the 2010 watch lists for three national awards.

Griffin, who is listed as a sophomore again this season after receiving a hardship waiver following last season, is among 60 players on the watch list for the 74th annual Maxwell Award, presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding collegiate football player. RG3 is also one of 30 student-athletes on the initial watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award and one of 29 players revealed thus far on the Manning Award watch list. The O’Brien and Manning awards each recognize the nation’s top quarterback.

The Central Texas product is also the cover subject for the current issue of U Monthly (pictured). In the feature, Griffin talks about his injury, God and plans for life after football.

Fans attending games in Waco this fall will have the chance to see Griffin and the Bears go head to head with many of the other names on these lists, including Texas Tech QB Taylor Potts, Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas, Texas A&M QB Jerrod Johnson and Oklahoma QB Landry Jones.
