• Missions Line Camp student: ‘It’s not about whether they know who to thank’

    Baylor Line Camp - Guatemala

While most Baylor Line Camp participants took part in a camp on the Baylor campus, two special Line Camps took place far from Waco. One of those took incoming freshmen to Guatemala, where they not only got to know Baylor and one another, but served local children through an organization known as Orphan’s Heart.

Garrett Burton, a freshman biology major from East Texas, was among those who experienced that trip; that’s him pictured above. His words epitomize the heart of service Baylor Bears strive for:

“After a few days of being back from Guatemala with Baylor, I’m still just so amazed by this trip and by the amount of truly good people that came together all at the same place, all at the same time to make this past week work.

“The little boy in this picture will one day be living a much better life than most in his country because of Colonia Infantil. He won’t remember that I was the one to hold him, but he will remember being held and will grow with an understanding of compassion. He won’t remember that I was the one who told him the names of the things he pointed at, but he will remember those words and will grow with an understanding of communication. He won’t remember that we sang ‘Jesus Loves Me,’ but he will remember that he has a God who loves him, and will grow with an understanding of Christ.

“It’s not about whether or not they know who to thank. It’s about the fact that they have so much to be thankful for. Orphan’s Heart-Colonia Infantil is a blessing to every kid that comes through their doors, and I will never find the words to thank them for letting our team get a little glimpse of the work that Christ is doing there.”

Sic ’em, Garrett and Baylor Missions!
