Baylor grad Brianna Childs - The World Race

Brianna Childs, BA ’16, has only been a college graduate for two months. Most of her peers are just starting their first “real job” or are in the midst of applying for one, or they’re headed to graduate school. But not Brianna — because since high school, she’s had her eyes set on the World Race.

The World Race is an 11-month mission trip through 11 countries, from the tip of South America to Mongolia. The website describes it as “a year of Matthew 10 in action: ‘Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.’” For nearly a year, Brianna will live out of a backpack, become immersed in the countries’ people and culture, and serve God’s people however she can. It’s especially a chance for Brianna to work on her passion of empowering survivors of human trafficking or abuse.

Of course, you don’t have to wait until after graduation to serve and make an impact. Brianna made use of her minors (religion and poverty studies and social justice) every chance she could: as an officer in International Justice Mission, a Community Leader in Collins, a student worker in the religion department, and a youth associate at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Her plan upon landing back in the United States? Returning to Baylor to get a dual master’s degree from Truett Seminary and the School of Social Work.

Brianna begins her journey this August; you can follow her journey at her World Race blog.

    Sic ’em, Brianna!
