• Longtime Baylor advisor receives Texas lifetime achievement award

    Laura Scott

Generations of Baylor students have been blessed by the guidance and friendship of Baylor staff members all across campus who have made a difference in their lives. It’s not just students, though, who recognize the impact of our dedicated employees — educational and professional organizations across the country take notice, too.

The latest example? Laura Scott, BA ’84, MSED ’89 — a Baylor counselor and advisor for more than 30 years — who was honored last month with a lifetime achievement award from the Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN) at the organization’s yearly conference in Austin.

In her time at Baylor, Scott has advised countless students on their Baylor journeys, helping each find the path that’s right for him or her. Scott was recognized for both her work with students and her work in the advising community, where she has devised professional development programs for her colleagues at Baylor and beyond. After 15 years in Baylor’s admissions office, in 2000 she joined the university’s team of academic advisors, where today she serves as manager for professional development.

As a two-time Baylor graduate, it’s no surprise that Scott would recognize the impact a dedicated employee can have here; she earned both her bachelor’s degree in journalism and master’s in education right here, where she benefitted from Baylor advisors who came before her. And she’s not even the only TEXAAN Lifetime Achievement Award winner in her own office; Joyce Miller, BA ’70, MSED ’91, a senior director in University Advisement, was so honored back in 2012.

Scott’s honor is just one example of the excellence and dedication of the staff members who we are blessed to call part of the Baylor Family. All across campus, you’ll find staff members who care deeply about the students they serve, and serve as leaders in their own fields. Not all of them win awards, but they all deserve a “sic ’em” — and our appreciation.

Sic ’em, Laura Scott and Baylor staff!
